Recently, two semi-circular beam STS cranes customized by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) for PSA Italy’s SECH Terminal arrived at the Genoa Port aboard the “Zhen Hua 23”. This project represents another significant achievement in the serialization and internationalization of ZPMC’s semi-circular beam technology, showcasing the global competitiveness of China’s high-end port machinery equipment.

This batch of equipment, currently the world’s largest semi-circular beam STS cranes, departed from ZPMC’s Changxing Branch in December 2025, designed and manufactured in full compliance with the operational specifications of the Genoa Terminal.

The two semi-circular beam STS cranes boost a total height of 126 meters and a lifting height of 48 meters. Their outreach has been increased from 50 meters in previous equipment to 60 meters, enabling service to increasingly larger container vessels. When operating in twin-lift mode, the new STS cranes can handle loads up to 65 tons, compared to only 45 tons for the equipment currently in use.

The new STS cranes are also equipped with container optical character recognition (OCR) systems, digital detection tools for truck positioning during vessel loading and unloading operations, and vessel profile scanning systems, which help improve the accuracy, safety, and productivity of daily operations.

Once put into operation, the equipment will contribute to consolidating Genoa’s position as a Mediterranean container hub port and continuously elevating its operational standards.
