Recently, the Phase I project of the automated terminal at Colombo West Port in Sri Lanka, for which Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) provided overall system integration, has reached a key milestone, with the terminal’s container throughput surpassing 1 million TEUs.

Colombo West Port in Sri Lanka is the country’s first automated terminal and one of the largest and deepest container terminals in South Asia. ZPMC supplied 8 STS cranes, 18 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes, and a complete intelligent control system for the Phase I project, enabling efficient terminal operations through advanced equipment and intelligent technologies. The terminal’s average monthly efficiency in the first quarter has already met the phased targets.

Since the terminal was launched to operation in 2025, the ZPMC project team has been upholding the service philosophy of “customer-centric, meeting customer needs, and creating value for customers.” Focusing on process optimization, equipment assurance, and coordinated scheduling, the team has continued to drive improvements through high-quality operation and maintenance as well as refined efficiency enhancement measures. This has ensured stable round-the-clock operation of the entire terminal process, resulting in steady gains in efficiency.

The 6 STS cranes and 16 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes supplied by ZPMC for the Phase II project will be delivered to the site in succession. Once operational, the project will further enhance the terminal’s handling capacity and overall operational efficiency, adding another shining achievement to ZPMC’s overseas project portfolio.
