Innovation Powers the Transition to Green Shipping

Amid increasingly stringent environmental standards in global shipping, ZPMC is accelerating its green transformation through continuous innovation. In late 2024, the vessel ZHEN HUA32 docked at Hong Kong’s Lamma Anchorage to receive 1,062 tons of biofuel, the first such refueling within the Zhenhua fleet. Building on this milestone, vessels including ZHEN HUA27, ZHEN HUA24, and ZHEN HUA35 have now adopted biofuel, consuming a total of 2,670 tons by 2025.

This shift has already cut carbon emissions by 1,995.71 tons—an impact equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of roughly 33,000 mature trees. These results not only mark tangible progress in ZPMC’s low-carbon strategy but also set a replicable example for the industry’s journey toward sustainable shipping.

To improve onboard wastewater management, ZPMC also installed three shore discharge pipelines, allowing direct integration with urban sewage systems. This reduces dependence on mobile treatment units and eliminates previous gaps in reception capacity. 

Comprehensive Environmental Management

ZPMC strictly follows the International MARPOL Convention and China's pollution prevention policies, implementing a structured and sustained environmental management system. 

- Practical Oversight:Shipboard waste is separated into four color-coded streams—red for plastics, blue for general refuse, green for food scraps, and black for process waste—enabling accurate storage and disposal.

- Standardized Procedures:Waste and hazardous materials are collected daily by type and transported by shore-based coordinators to approved facilities. All handovers of hazardous materials are accompanied by complete documentation.

- Long-Term Accountability:Waste sorting activities are recorded in garbage record books, with entries maintained for at least two years to ensure traceability and oversight.

From biofuel adoption to sewage management, and from waste segregation to closed-loop monitoring, ZPMC's environmental initiatives demonstrate both technical progress and a deep dedication to responsible marine operations.
