The steel box girders of Nizhou Aqueduct to Humen Bridge No. 2 participated by ZPMC were connected successfully in Guangdong Province in the morning of May 25th, indicating the closure of main bridge of Humen Bridge No. 2.
Humen Bridge No. 2 consists of Nizhou Aqueduct and Dasha Aqueduct, totally 13km in the length and 40m in the width approximately. Nizhou Aqueduct is a double-tower, double span steel box girder suspension bridge with the main span of 658+1,688m, of which 66 steel box girders of 18,000t totally, with each segment of 49.7m in width and 4m in height, are manufactured by ZPMC.
The Project lies in the two main courses of Nizhou course with fast flow and rock bottom of the course, making higher requirements on the vessels to transport the steel box girders. To avoid the impact of the steel box girder transportation on the hoisting on the site, the staff of the Project Department organized the transporters for the site survey in advance and the trial anchoring. The transportation of all steel box girders for 72 days makes sure the successful implementation of the general construction plan of the Project.
Humen Bridge No. 2 is another model project by ZPMC in Guangdong , connecting east and west bank of Zhujiang River with 4 interchanges after the island and tunnel project of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Humen Bridge No. 2 will be the steel box girder suspension bridge with the largest span in the world.
The bridge girth joint construction will start after the successful closure of the steel box girder of Nizhou Aqueduct at present.
