Li Zhanshu, Chairman of NPC Standing Committee, paid a friendly visit to Mozambique at the invitation of Veronica Nataniel Macamo, Speaker of Parliament of Mozambique on May 12th to 15th. On May 15th, Li made an inspection on Mozambique Maputo Cross-sea Bridge manufactured and installed by ZPMC,accompanied with Chen Fenjian, President of CCCC and Zhu Lianyu, Secretary and Chairman of ZPMC.
After hearing the introduction by Chen Fenjian on main characteristics, significance and construction of Maputo Cross-sea Bridge as well as operation and social responsibilities of the Company, Li expressed appreciation on the achievements of CCCC in Africa, especially in the construction of the Bridge and consideration on overseas staff of the Company.
Li pointed out the importance of Maputo Bridge by CCCC in Mozambique on the local employment and economy promotion along the Bridge, which would be the symbol of China-Mozambique friendship and a new model of international cooperation. Chinese companies should put policies and principles of the central government into operation to go out of China and with the struggle spirit and technical advantages, undertake more symbolic projects to benefit for the local society and to show the strength of China in Africa and around the world. The companies should continue the cooperation with the local staff and sectors of society for sound images of Chinese companies and of China. The high quality construction should be carries out to establish the sound international images and brand, making win-win cooperation with the local companies of projects.
Maputo Bridge is undertook by China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC), for which ZPMC provides all steel structures of 8,100t and the welding and coating on the site. The Bridge is a single-span simply-supported steel box girder suspension bridge with the main span of 680m, totally stretching for 3km approximately. It is designed and constructed fully in accordance with the requirements of China standards, which is the longest suspension bridge in Africa and the longest one undertook by the Chinese company overseas. The Bridge, after the completion, will connect the southern regions of Mozambique with the capital Maputo at the core, promoting the development of different industries of passengers and freight transportation, traffic and ecotourism of Mozambique as well as the economic corridor along the river.
