The mid-span of Feiyunjiang Sea-crossing Grand Bridge, participated by ZPMC Steel Structure Division, was closed successfully on April 16th, making solid foundation for the multiple-track Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Highway open to traffic.

The Bridge of 3,989m, as the control project of the part between Lingkun and Gexiang, is of the double-tower, double-cable steel concrete composite beam cable-stayed bridge with the major span of 380m. The main tower is of 140m high A-frame reinforced concrete structure with the width of 8.5m along the bridge and 5.5m lateral to the bridge. The bridge will make sure the traffic of vessels of 3,000t after the completion.

The temperature-based cutting method was adopted in the closure due to the temperature difference, the critical problem to the bridge closure, on the basis of complicated geological and hydrological conditions in the construction area. The changing temperature has great impact on the allowance of closure joint. The steel beam will expand or shrink by 4mm for the temperature increasing or decreasing by 1℃. Therefore, the web welding, an important part of the mid-span closure, must be made under the stable temperature. ZPMC Project Division made detailed closure program on the closure section width measurement, lifting, allowance cutting, joint matching and welding. ZPMC Project Team completed the allowance cutting and welding after hard work for more than 40 hours and the mid-span of Feiyunjiang Sea-crossing Grand Bridge was closed successfully on the roaring waters.

ZPMC undertakes the manufacturing, site welding and painting of all 65 beam sections of the Project. The Project commenced in November 2016 and the delivery, lifting and site welding of all sections have been completed so far.
