The staff of Vessel Zhen Hua 27 and the on-site project team recently completed unloading of two quay cranes for the Port of Dakar, Senegal within five days.
Senegal is the westmost country in Africa. Against the outbreak of COVID-19, it takes strict epidemic prevention and curfew measures. The working hours are limited. At the same time, large equipment cannot be used as a result of temporary height increase of customer’s wharf, and lifting of quay cranes can only be done manually. These objective factors brought lots of challenges for unloading.
Due to the demand of berth operation, the customer was informed of 5- day berthing window for Vessel Zhen Hua 27, and they would have to leave the port and wait for the next berthing window if they failed to unload within 5 days. Considering berthing costs and waiting expenses, the company communicated several times with the customers and finally decided to do its best to complete unloading within 5-day berthing window. To this end, based on the unloading plan, the on-site project team prepared detailed operation procedures, arranged unloading staff, and actively organized the crew for construction. Eventually, two quay cranes were unloaded on schedule. The efficient communication and outstanding performance of the company was highly appreciated by DPW customer.
The Port of Dakar is located on the west bank of the Gulf of Senegal, and on the east side of the Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest port in Senegal and the largest port in West Africa. The arrival of the two new quay cranes will further enhance the competitiveness of the wharf.
